Proprietary Schools

The Board of Regents oversees proprietary schools 鈥 private businesses owned by one person, a partnership, a limited liability company, or a corporation for the purpose of selling vocational/occupational courses to the general public. The responsibility of proprietary schools is to prepare individuals for gainful employment. These schools do not award academic degrees. Academic degree granting institutions are governed by a different law and should reference .

To meet the definition of a proprietary school, a private business must either maintain a physical facility within the state, have a mailing address within the state, or employ at least one representative within the state. All licensed proprietary schools in 麻豆天美果冻传媒 must abide by the 麻豆天美果冻传媒 Proprietary Schools Law, R.S. 17:3140.1 et seq., which was enacted in 1972. Proprietary schools are licensed by the Board of Regents and adhere to the rules and regulations of the 麻豆天美果冻传媒 Proprietary Schools Advisory Commission.

Currently licensed schools should submit all renewal applications, staff applications, new program applications, program change applications and any other updates related to a change in the school鈥檚 name, address, or accreditation status through the online application management system: . Schools should contact their primary reviewer with questions about potential changes prior to implementation to ensure the school remains in compliance.

Annual Student Data

    • All licensed schools are required to submit student level data annually at the end of each fiscal year. This data is collected in July/August and submitted via a custom data portal.

Potential Schools

If you are interested in starting a proprietary school, or opening a new branch, please start here. Potential applicants should review the law and code above, as well as the documents below. Please pay special attention to the PSC-14, or Application Check List, as it lists all components of a complete and compliant application, as required by law. All applications are completed via an online application management system, but potential applicants must register for an initial license training webinar prior to receiving access. Proprietary Schools Commission

The Advisory Commission on Proprietary Schools meets six times a year to review initial and renewal applications as well as any change of ownership applications or submissions of new Associates of Occupational Studies offerings. The Commission鈥檚 recommendations are sent to the Board of Regents for final approval. The Commission will also hear any alleged violations of Proprietary School law as an administrative hearing if the need arises.
